Largest Lunar New Year Festival in Canada, Feb. 4-6, 2005

December 22, 2004, TorontoToronto Celebrates the Year of the Rooster with a three-day extravaganza at the Automotive Building, National Trade Centre in Toronto from February 4-6, 2005.

 

The annual event celebrating the Lunar New Year is the largest festival in Canada and is expected to attract in excess of 80,000 visitors.  Programs include the International Children Lunar New Year Drawing Exhibition, the “Silk Road” Photo Contest and Exhibition, the Lunar New Year Flower Market and the “Mercy in Heart” Photo Exhibition. 

 

“We’re thrilled to be able to usher in the Lunar New Year with so many exhibitions and stellar performances by internationally renowned Asian artists,” says Alex Yeung, Executive Director of the Festival.  “We’re pleased to be welcoming back previous sponsors such as Air Canada and State Farm Insurance and also to introduce visitors to some wonderful acts that highlight our tradition, history and culture.

 

Returning for another year is the Toronto Star Main Stage featuring special shows and entertaining acts from Asia and abroad.  From the Shaolin Warrior Monks and “Oriental Fusion” Fashion to Feng Shui Predictions and “The Colours of the Philippines” Variety Show, there are myriad occasions to join in the festivities. 

 

Toronto Celebrates the Lunar New Year Festival runs from Friday, February 4th to Sunday, February 6th.  Hours are: Friday/Saturday from 11AM-11PM and Sunday from 11AM-7PM.  Admissions are Adults $10 and Seniors/Youth $8.50 with group tickets available for 20 or more.

 

With parking in abundance, both indoor and outdoor, there is ample opportunity to explore the sights and sounds of Asia.  There will be Lion and Dragon Dances, Hand-in-Hand Korean Drumming, Ballroom/Latin Dancing performances as well as the Ho Deng Chinese Music Ensemble and Western Union U Idol Talent Contest 2005. 

 

Various charitable organizations including the Kidney Foundation of Ontario, the United Way of GTA, Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation and Mon Sheong Home for the Aged will also be participating by hosting fundraising activities during the Festival.  Sponsors this year include Goldline Telemanagement Inc., H & R Block and Aqua Technologies.
